Lymington planning permission

Planning consent has been awarded by the New Forest District Council for a dwelling house located in close to Lymington Quay in an area of mixed commercial and residential properties. The building lies within the Lymington Conservation Area and is set adjacent to Listed Buildings. The conversion of the building from 1 dwelling back to 2 dwellings has been approved by the Council. The proposal is to reinstate the original ridge line, replace the flat roof dormer with new gables to the front and back and create new access to Newgate cottage via space under the balcony. Internally, new staircases and internal partitions have been proposed in order to increase the amount of usable space, as well as new walk on rooflights on the balcony.

Ullswater Yacht Club Competition

There are a number of obvious and novel ways of addressing the brief. While recent experience has raised the importance of the flood risk this is a once in a lifetime event and it would be easy to loose sight of other more important criteria. What matters most is the provision of an efficient, interesting and practical club house.

The proposal splits the accommodation into spaces that could survive under water and those that would be best kept dry. This gives s split of about 140m2 on the ground floor to 360m2 on the first floor. Simple two blocks, one over sailing the other to provide covered areas for access, clothing and equipment dumping, tender storage, outdoor summer bar/server, rib parking etc.

La Turbie planning permission

The existing house, built in the 70's in a pseudo Provencal style, is located on a very steep site running down from west to east in a series of terraces in La Turbie, a medieval village on the Côte d'Azur with spectacular views over Monaco and the French Riviera. The planning permission granted by Le Maire de La Turbie seeks to remodel and renovate the existing house and garden to provide a family home and to accommodate a swimming pool, turning area and parking.

place changes places

After six years at the top of the High Street in Andover, place is moving to Winchester.

The move to larger offices will allow for the planned growth of the team over the coming years as the economy slowly moves out of recession. The relocation to Winchester will facilitate a closer working relationship with associate companies in the area and ease communications to the various projects we have throughout the South of England and in southern France.

The offices are in the heart of the historic city, off The Square, with fine views of the Cathedral and High Street.  The site has an ancient heritage, in Saxon times, under King Alfred and Cnut it was the location of the northern gate to the Abbey grounds. In 1066 William the Conquerer moved the city gate further east to provide space to build the kitchens for his new palace.  Over the following centuries this became in turn the Woolsled, or exchange, and then the home of the Winchester Mint, hence 'Mint Yard'

To facilitate the move we will be closing the office in Andover this Thursday afternoon and re-opening in Winchester on Tuesday 14 June. During that period please contact us by e mail or on our mobile phone numbers.

Our new postal address is;

place, Mint Yard, The Square, Winchester, SO23 9EX.

Our e mail addresses remain the same and our new phone number will be posted shortly (when BT get their act together!)  Our old number will redirect you automatically in the mean time.

Draycott Place planning permission

The Royal Borough Kensington and Chelsea grants permission for the construction of a replacement house that will provide a central London residence for permanent occupation by our client and his family and guests. The site is in a conspicuous townscape location in the west corner of Sloane Square Conservation Area. The scheme has gone through an 18 month process of application review, negotiation, withdrawal and reapplication, including three assessments by the Architects Appraisal Panel under the separate chairmanships of John McAslan, Alfred Munchenbeck and David Chipperfield. The scheme, clearly contemporary, has an architectural individuality and integrity appropriate to its corner location, while responding directly to the scale, materials, massing, alignment, hierarchy and roofscape of the adjacent terrace and surrounding conservation area.

Tullamore Community Arts Centre competition

place has entered this competition presenting a building which try to address the needs of Tullamore for diversity of vision; the building must be highly flexible both in the way spaces can be interconnected and within each space. Abstract flexibility can be expensive to install and operate often being redundant by the time the building is completed. Finite flexibility which allows spaces to change between specific predesigned layouts and functions is efficient, creating high quality preparation and presentation spaces for specific art forms.

The multiple facilities suggests the use by a divers cross section of the population at the same time and to integrate the access while retaining control and independence suggests the centre to be treated as a ‘cultural street’ off which the different activities can be separately accessed.

Pollards planning permission

Planning consent has been awarded by the Wiltshire Council for the erection of a replacement house, carport and garden walls. The site is located in the countryside within the loose settlement of Canville, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The development involves the demolition of the existing building as this, the extensions and outbuildings are not in keeping with the local vernacular in its massing, use of materials, detailing or position within the site. The proposed building adapts to the general aesthetics of the surrounding settlement, generally traditional brick farmhouses with sash windows, shallow pitched roofs and minor overhangs.

2 Hillside Cottages planning permission

Planning permission has been granted by the Test Valley Borough Council to extend a semidetached family house located in Upton, a small village outside Andover. This will replace an existing conservatory at the back of the house, currently unusable because of poor thermal insulation. Our client wishes to provide more generous space for his big family as well as deal with some privacy issues by erecting solid walls avoiding overlooking and directing the view to the open countryside.
